Sweet Friday

Except for Sunday dinners with the family, I now prefer to stay at home on weekends. Yes, even if I'm already home 80% of the time the rest of the week. That, my dears, is brought to you by no less than AGE. Hahaha!

But yesterday was an exception. I had been craving for The Sweet Life by Ange's Camote Chips for days, especially the Salty Sweet version. The other flavors don't make me as happy. So I decided to make a quick stop at the Baker's Fair in Power Plant Mall. 

I happily snagged 3 bags

They sell for P150 each, not exactly cheap. But they're so good, I just had to stock up.

I also ended up buying two whole cakes when I saw that Costa Brava had a table there. One for the house and the other to contribute to this Sunday's dinner

I had to stop myself from buying more because we don't have one of those gigantic refrigerators at home and the kids still have some sweets stored in there from my trip to Boni High Street last Thursday. I really should slow down on my sugar intake. 

Sigh. But how?

Food Review : La Creperie

Although Cafe Breton is still our default choice whenever we feel like having crepes, this place is definitely second on our list. We frequent the one in Eastwood Mall (2nd level, beside Italianni's) but their branch in Shangri-la Mall (2nd level) is also conveniently close to us.

The place is not so big, you can fill up the air-conditioned area if you're a group of 10 or a dozen, I think. But the cozy interiors are what I love about the place, other than the food.

It was late when we got there but my girls ate their orders with so much gusto!

You can just Google for a copy of their menu with prices. I was too tired and sleepy to take note because this was our final stop on the little girl's day-long birthday celebration. Nothing to fear though. Even if the food looks and really is good, the prices are quite friendly.

The best Red Velvet so far

Chocolat is always a favorite stop for us whenever we need to buy dessert for a potluck gathering. It's near the house and right along the way most of the time. Last night, we had a Despedida (going away) dinner for N's cousin who's in town from California but flying home this week. Chocolat's chocolate cakes are always a hit so it was really a no brainer.

When we walked into the shop though, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that other than chocolate, they now have Red Velvet, too. We decided to take the risk and went for a dozen Red Velvet cupcakes (it doesn't come in an 8-inch cake, only in 6 inches which is kinda small).

If they look small in the box, that's 'cause they ARE just a teeny bit smaller than the usual cupcakes. Not an issue because they're priced just right at Php 35.00 each.

It was sooooo good, I had two of these one after another right after a heavy dinner (oink)

And as I type, I'm craving for one of two pieces that's left in the fridge (I need to leave one for Anissa or else she'll go ballistic). I'm definitely going back to get another box to keep at home.

Desserts at Momo Cafe

My family has had dinner here a few times. I personally love their Filipino breakfast plate (that's not the exact name on the menu though), especially the Beef Tapa, which is what I always order! Last night, we decided to hangout here after dinner. I didn't stuff myself at BluFish so I had some room for dessert. Their offerings looked so tempting in the chiller, Anissa and I couldn't resist!

I ordered the Chocnut Sansrival and Anissa spotted Deep Fried Oreos in the dessert list so that's what she decided to get.

Here's my slice of the Chocnut Sansrival. It was good. However, I like my Sansrival sticky and semi-crunchy. Very old school, I know. But this is the kind f Sansrival I grew up loving. This was neither sticky, nor crunchy. But the chocnut flavor was not bad at all.

When Anissa's order arrived, she took one bite and immediately urged me to do the same.

So I did.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

I teased her about exchanging orders because this one tasted wayyyyyyy better than mine! It also helped that they used mini Oreos. They made it so much easier to eat. I don't know what they used but it was the breading (or coating, if that's a more correct term) that really did the job. Now I have one more reason to keep going back to Momo Cafe!

I wonder if they serve this in Chelsea (Serendra) as well. The same group owns it.

By the way, we always go to the branch in Eastwood Mall.

But a friend told me there's also one in the Ayala Triangle in Makati.

Do yourselves a favor and order this on your next visit!

Old Reliable : Becky's Kitchen

They definitely have the best (chocolate) brownies in town. But I'm not too fond of brownies. I have them only when I feel like it. It's different though when it comes to their Lemon Squares. I can have them anytime, all the time! Soft and moist ... super chewy!

Unfortunately, I forgot to ask DH how much a box of this now costs. He brought it home for me the other day, along with a box of brownies for himself. I'm sure it's no more than P200. Such a small price to pay for heaven!

Saturday Night Food Tripping

Braved the unexpected downpour tonight and headed to Shang Mall post dinner DH's younger sister, Michelle, said we should all try Secret Recipes and so we did!
Even at almost 9pm, the place was still full, we had to wait a bit to be seated


American Brownies ala Mode - DH and I shared this Highly recommended! Super rich but not annoyingly sweet. They used really good dark chocolate. P85 for the brownies alone. Add P45 for the ice cream scoop.
