Summer Lips by NYX

I've added one more name to my list of NYX soft matte lip cream shades that I buy over and over again: MILAN. The other shades that preceded this new kid on the block are Amsterdam, Sao Paolo (but San Paolo on the label), Addis Ababa. 

Among the shades mentioned, my go-to shade has always been Sao Paolo but sorry, I need to park you for a bit in favor of this

Please don't mind the bloated cheeks. I'm still hoping they're really bloated and not fat. Those are two different things. Anyway ... why am I choosing this over my go-to shade for more than a year now? Because it's summer and this light pink shade is LOVE. I love that it's subdued and perfect even for when I just have to grab something quickly from the grocery or go to the bank to transact. 

Even Sabine --- who incidentally loves make up --- agrees that this shade suits me. Thank you, baby girl, you sure have good taste!

P.S. I'm wearing Maybelline Gel Liner here. I've been using it for 4 days now, ever since Mama gave it to me and I'm really impressed. It's soooo easy to use and stays put the whole time even on oily lids like mine (hahaha tamad to review!).

Let's start with the first two. I've always liked NYX lip products. In fact, I have a few of the matte lip creams as well as the round lipsticks. The Xtreme Lip Creams are supposed to be highly-pigmented just like their matte ones, except these leave a glossy finish. I sometimes like applying gloss over my lipstick so this is perfect!

Out of all of the available shades below, I chose Buttery Nude and Strawberry Jam. I don't know how on earth I was able resist all the other colors. I'm sure I'll be going back for other shades after my first two arrive! (already have my eye on Candy Land and Absolutely Red)

I've a done a review on Sleek's True Color lipsticks here. I haven't outgrown them just yet but I just couldn't say no to Sleek's Pout Paints. Again, I don't know how I ended up ordering just ONE shade.

The New-Found Addiction

So when did this addiction to lipstick start? The love for lip color is slowly but surely making its way up to the shoe level (my number one fetish). I won't be surprised if one day, it knocks shoes off the number one spot, being more affordable and physically easier to collect and keep.

My number one lipstick brand has always been MAC. I started using it as a newbie in the work field. Marrakesh was one of my favorite shades. I was a frontliner then and I had to wear some makeup every single day. In order to get away with not wearing eyeshadow, I would always choose a lipstick shade that would stand out and not make my bosses notice that I was hardly wearing anything else.

For years since then, it was always the MAC counter for me everytime I was in the mood for a new lippie. Needless to say, the habit was quite a pain to maintain but all worth it because, well ... MAC is MAC.

Lately though, I'm thankful that NYX came into the picture. It's definitely an economical way to feed this "bad" habit of wanting to buy lipstick all the time. Don't get me wrong, I've not totally abandoned MAC lippies. They'll always be on the list of wants. But NYX is pretty hard (okay, VERY hard) to resist.

I first discovered NYX's Soft Matte Lip Creams via Sol of Digital Traincase. I would have to say, that these are perfect if you want a matte look without the hassle of applying a matte lipstick. It comes on creamy and all you have to do is wait for it to dry up. The matte effect is yours!

Most recently, I tried NYX's Round Lipstick in Hero

It's a definite keeper! The creamy finish makes it so easy to apply, I didn't even need a lipliner here. I was so sure I wanted to order more (only P160 a pop) but while I was busy deciding on my next purchase, guess what? Digital Traincase releases a new slew of shades!

As if the existing palette was not enough, these new shades have literally rocked my world and I'm currently in a serious dilemma (drama drama drama) about which color to pick. My eyes first darted to the red ones (Chic and Pure) but I have to control that urge because I need to deviate from my usual. I'm absolutely getting Haute Melon so that's a check! As for what else, I'm getting, that remains to be seen.

Sephora Cream Lip Stains --- my new loves!

While in Singapore, I made sure to include Sephora in our itinerary. While the boys and the rest of the family (tired from all the walking) decided to sit down and wait, Anissa and I together with my 3 nieces headed off on a serious beauty hunt!

After trying on so many lipstick/lipgloss samples, I went home with Sephora's Cream Lip Stains in Always Red and Forever Fuschia. I loved these shades so much that even when I had no time to run back to the store, I asked a good friend to get me more.

Ease of application - a perfect 10

Pigmentation - highly pigmented

Staying power - 9/10

All in all, this is so worth it for the price!

Coming Soon : MAC Lustering

I recently blogged about an epiphany of sorts, thanks to my good friends P and S.

I didn't realize (more like, I refused to accept) that I could get away with wearing red lipstick. But thanks to them, MAC Russian Red is now part of my lipstick collection.

Here's the 2nd part of that epiphany. Another color I've always been averse to (when it comes to make-up atleast), is pink. Who knew that they'd be able to convince me to wear it?! I still can't wear light pink shades though, they make me look so pale. DEATHLY pale, to be precise. Darker shades are definitely more "me".

It was "out of stock" in MAC Power Plant Mall, which didn't really come as a surprise to us.

Good thing HK supposedly never runs out of this.

During our last family vacation in Subic though, I walked into the Body Shop store at PureGold and browsed through their lipstick selection and found a really nice shade of Fuschia. Their #69 lipstick is supposedly the best in their line. The best part? The shop turned out to be an outlet store! I got the lipstick for just P400, about 30% off its original price.
