6 Months!

Six months ago today, I woke up to my first ever cigarette-free day since I first lit up many years ago. The night before that (September 1), I took my last puffs on a stick of Mild Sevens (original). It was shortly before midnight. At midnight, a mental alarm clock was to go off because that was the signal, the deadline. It was what I agreed to do and what I promised my Breast Surgeon I would do to prepare for surgery. But when I took my last puff, it wasn't because I wanted to be "clean" for surgery. I wanted to be clean. Period.

For so long before that, Anissa tried desperately to make me kick the habit. Her Dad, my ex-husband, is also a smoker. She worked hard to make us both quit. Today, she only has to worry about one parent smoking, and it's not me.

Wow, six months. I still can't believe I was able to do it. Smoking had become a huge part of my life. I smoked everytime I was bored, stressed, angry, full, having coffee, sad, happy ... I had an excuse for it each time. I simply wanted to smoke. It was something I had grown so used to. I couldn't imagine going anywhere without cigarettes. Even my Dad, whom I respected so much and feared most of the time, wasn't able to convince me to quit smoking. I am so sure he's smiling down from heaven today. I'm glad I'm making him proud even from where he is.

Now my problem is how to get N to quit. He's still at it, even if most of the time he's lonely. Hahaha. Seriously, I need to find a way to gently convince him to join me. I know I can't be forceful (that really doesn't work), but I hope I find the trick somehow.

In the meantime, I'm giving myself twin pats on the back for a job well done!

Hello, March (and a shameless plug)

I wake up and it's March already? Really? Well it HAS been kinda hot and humid in the afternoons lately. I've had to turn the aircon on a few times because I couldn't stand the heat in the house.

Unlike in the past years, we really don't have anything concrete planned for summer this year. I'm just so glad my chemo treatments are done. The breast cancer is the main reason no plans were made. Everyone, my entire family, was just so focused on my illness and my treatments. Now that the chemo chapter is over, we're all relieved and thankful. But alas, no summer plans at all. It's probably too late to book anything even if we want to.

By this time, I'm usually on the lookout for swimsuits already. Not just that ... tank tops, maxi dresses, shorts, breezy tops, new sunglasses, flip flops. The works! But really, the breast cancer changed everything. Not to mention Daddy's passing, too.

No one's really complaining about not going anywhere in the summer months. The kids will be busy for sure. Anissa with dance training plus another dance class and Sabine with something, we just don't know yet what because we haven't asked her. She will definitely want to do something. Last year, we made her go to swim class. I'm thinking of art or dance --- whichever she prefers more.

I know what I'm going to be busy with though. It's a baby I gave "birth" to very recently called

Who Loves Stripes?

The one thing I can have so many of in my closet? Anything with stripes. Tops, skirts, dresses. Name it. If it's striped, you can be sure it catches my eye on the rack or mannequin.

Proof.

Enough? Hehehe. There's more where that came from. But yeah ... more than checks, plaids or dots, I've always been and will be a stripes girl.

I was browsing the website of one of my favorite US clothing brands and spotted a few things I would looooooooove to buy right now (but won't). Guess what the are.
Kimono Sleeve Maxi Dress, around P5,800
Vintage Cotton V-Neck, around P1,500

Painter Elbow-Sleeve Boatneck Top, around Php 2,500

Aaaaaccckkkk! There's a Comme de Garcons Sweater!!!
But only in my dreams because it costs more than P20,000.

Boy Shirt in Stripe Linen, around P5,000
I think stripes are timeless. I'm so glad I'm still pretty much old school when it comes to these things. I don't like bold, abstract prints ... I'll leave those to my teenager to use. My obsession with stripes will go on forever and ever.

I therefore conclude also ... that if I don't go back to work or get started on my shoe business, I won't be able to afford J.Crew again. Ang mahal na!
